COVID-19 Situation

Due to the on going Covid-19 pandemic and the government instructions to stay home and only go out for essential activities, the STMC meet in Cornwall and the May Scotland meet are  both cancelled. So the next scheduled meet is N Wales camping in June is now cancelled. The S Wales in July is cancelled. As and when the situation becomes clear there will be an update.

New Arrangements for Membership

In the coming months STMC is planning to make significant changes to its membership arrangements.  For existing members the current system of annual renewals will be discontinued and all existing members will be offered life membership.  New members will be asked to pay a one-off joining fee of £25.  New members will also be asked to complete and sign a membership application form as at present.  After the end of 2013 the Club will no longer maintain its affiliation to the British Mountaineering Council.   Members who want to continue receiving the benefits of BMC membership (insurance, discounts, Summit etc) will be able to join BMC as individual members.

Club activities will continue as at present: meets at roughly one per month, local walks, London socials and Xmas meals, and the main means of communication will be the E-News.

At the moment we have not been through this website to reflect these changes, so please be aware that in future the club will operate as described here.

How To Book

•    Contact the Meet Secretary (normally by e-mail)
•    Please provide the Meet Secretary with the following information
•    whether you plan to take a car or need a lift
•    how many passengers you can take
•    where you will be leaving from and at what time
•    Send your fee to the Meet Secretary - cheques payable to STMC please. If a Meet is oversubscribed places are awarded on a first-come-first-served basis, and your place on the meet is not confirmed until the Meet Secretary has your money.
•    Write the  location and date of the meet on the back of the cheque.
•    The Meet Secretary will contact you a few days before the meet to let you know car-sharing arrangements.
•    For camping meets there is usually no limit on the number of places, and no money is required in advance.  But, please contact the Meet Secretary in plenty of time so that car sharing can be arranged.
•    If your plans change for any reason please let the Meet Secretary know as soon as possible.
•    If you have to cancel after having booked a place, the Club cannot give a refund (because we still have to pay for the accommodation) unless we can negotiate a refund from the hut owner or resell the place.

On The Meet

•    Please ensure that you are properly equipped for your chosen activity, for the time of year, etc. If in doubt consult the STMC Equipment List.
•    Please make every effort to bring the relevant Ordnance Survey map(s), and a compass.
•    Please settle your own campsite fees during the meet unless told otherwise.
•    Please bring your tent tags on camping meets and attach them to your tent so other members can find you on the campsite.
•    Please do your bit to ensure that huts are left clean and tidy
•    Passengers are expected to make a contribution towards their driver’s petrol and car running costs.  It has been agreed that, in most cases, a maximum total charge of petrol*1.5, divided by the number of people in the car, is reasonable
